Galungan And Kuningan 2022 June 8th / June 18th​

Galungan is a Balinese holiday celebrating the victory of dharma over adharma. It marks the time when the ancestral spirits visit the Earth.
The last day of the celebration is Kuningan, when they return.
The date is calculated according to the 210-day Balinese calendar.



Galungan marks the beginning of the Pawukon year.
These festivities start with Galungan day. lasting ten days, and coming to an end with the Kuningan celebration.
Galungan celebrates the creation of the universe, the victory of the good, Dharma, against the evil, Adharma. It takes place in family temples where, according to the Balinese, the gods come down to earth and the ancestors’ souls pay a visit to their family, followed by a ceremony and prayer at the temple.
Galungan is always celebrated on a Wednesday.
The celebration’s preparations start on the previous Monday, with the preparation of the cakes that will be used as offerings. On Tuesday, men prepare the festive dinner, Working together chopping chillies, herbs, spices, and vegetables, they prepare the pigs cooked whole over a fire of coconut husks, The women prepare the intricate offerings.
